A View of the Courtyard DEMO

about

This song is about that feeling of desperately needing to hold onto to something as long as possible, even though you know the end is near. For me, this emotion stems mostly from a place I was once at with my father before he passed 15 years ago. I was still a teen then. Hospitals and waiting rooms were very foreign to me. I hated it.

The song may represent more than just that specific relationship with my father though. Letting go of anything important to you in general can be difficult. So can holding-on. The feeling has visited me in a number of various occasions.

Originally, I titled this song "The Hours". I changed it to "A View of the Courtyard" because I felt it sounded slightly more positive.

lyrics

A VIEW OF THE COURTYARD

A view of the courtyard from your hospital bed
I waited the hours, while you talked to the dead
And watered the flowers, held onto your hand
And I don't want it to end this way

I'm not ready to lose you
I'm not ready for what you came here to do
Without putting up a fight
At least for another day

We walked through the alley to get to the car
That's where you stopped me to tell me what you knew all along
That our love was a lot like, singing a song
And you don't want it to end this way, today
Without sense of reason, without you

I'm not ready to lose you
I'm not ready for what you came here to do
Without putting up a fight
At least for another day
